Co-working space
Imagine a beautiful, warm and inspiring space where you can sit down to work on your project, together with other like-minded people with the same ambition and focus. Inbetween work hours, you are being invited to join for interactive and movement-based breaks, to get out of your head and into your body for a moment; to let the energy flow. There is space for you to work on your laptop, work on a creative project, work together or alone, move around, etc.
We currently schedule co-working days based on hosts' availability!

Co-working for all
We have ideas for different 'flavours' of co-working days. There are currently ideas for a co-working day for women-only, for parents with their children, and for queers. There are ideas for more flowy and co-creative days or dayblocks, and for more focused work days. We will try out different things and attune to the needs and wishes of those who are interested in joining the co-working space!
Accessible to all
We want to make the co-working space accessible to you. We will work with a stamp card, where one stamp gives you access to the co-working space for 1 day block of ~4 hours. There will be the possibility to either buy a stamp (for 6 euros) or you can earn a stamp by giving back to By Surya and the community in a different way.
For example: host a work day, facilitate an activity, bake a cake, help out with practical, organizational or promotional tasks, etc.
Imagine ...
​By Surya is a beautiful space of approximately 110 m², located in a former school building at Travertijnstraat 12 in the Vinkhuizen neighborhood of Groningen. The building sits on the edge of the city, close to nature, surrounded by trees and water. Trav12 is a creative hub where many artists, musicians, non-profit organizations, and residents have found a space to work and create. The building is alive. At one moment, it feels calm and quiet; at another, lively and buzzing with activity and sound.
As soon as you step into By Surya, you enter a “different world.” One that feels soft, homey, and warm. The soft-red, warm-orange, and sun-yellow walls create a safe haven for you to simply be and settle. In one corner of the space, you can hide away, retreat into a cozy nook. The other side of the room, bathed in sunlight from the southwest, offers openness and lightness. There is space to jump, dance, sing, and connect. Space to be yourself. To feel, and to create.
Along the windowed side of the room, facing southwest, there are tables and chairs. Spots where you can work inspired and undisturbed, looking out over the moss-covered roof and the treeline. No other buildings or people in sight—a true oasis of calm. And if you want a more dynamic, collaborative experience, you can join the community table, which is also available for meetings and discussions.
When the co-working space is open, you will be welcomed by the host of the day. She will open the door for you and show you around if it’s your first visit. Tea and a treat will be waiting for you. You will meet other people who, like you, are looking forward to working on their projects. Some will be quietly focused on a laptop, others collaborating on a project, and others working on a large artwork. Everything is possible at By Surya!
After a shared welcome, everyone settles into work. At least once per session, the host will invite you to take a break and move your body. Dance? Yoga? Voice liberation? Pillow fight? Anything goes—to help you step out of your head, sink into your body, and connect with yourself and others. To balance moments of focus and productivity with moments of surrender and letting go.
Everything here is an invitation. If one day you prefer to follow your own plan, that is equally welcome. You are never obliged to join the shared moments, but the invitation is always there. That is, among other things, what makes this place so special.
